ASK about Suicide to Save a Life

This workshop is for adults who interact with youth or adults at risk of suicide. The program provides participants with an overview of the basic epidemiology of suicide and suicidal behavior, including risk and protective factors. Participants are trained to gather more information about a person’s risk and act consistent with that risk if they identify a person who is not acutely suicidal.
About Our Presenter
Carroll Prasad is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and is currently the Manager of the Community Training Department at the Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD. Carroll is currently serving on the Harris Center’s Resiliency Team which assist the community following a crisis such as a shooting or suicide. Carroll facilitates evidenced-based training such as Youth and Adult Mental Health First Aid, safeTALK, ASK about Suicide, and is a Master Trainer in Applied Suicide Intervention and Skills Training (ASIST). The focus of these trainings is suicide prevention, intervention, and mental health education. She is passionate about teaching community members to become gatekeepers of hope for those struggling with thoughts of suicide. Her wish for the future is to decrease the stigma of mental illness by facilitating open, honest, community conversations about all types of health. She has more than 16 years of experience of counseling in K-12 education and more than 24 years of experience as a clinician. She graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Masters in Counselor Education, and she received an Educational Specialist degree. She lives in Acres Homes with her husband Bill, and their favorite place is under the sea. They are both Certified Rescue Scuba Divers.
