Brief Description of Practice
In my professional work, my life has been about being of service to people. I am passionate about this. I work primarily with men, women and child victims of of abuse and child and adult victims of sexual assault. My practice encompasses the application of a mixture of classical Family Therapy techniques and other approaches to therapy. I focus my beginning orientation with clients in genogram, or the history or herstory and may use a mixture of Intergenerational,Structural, Experiential, Behavioral, and Solution Focused work. I am also trained in Expressive Arts Therapy which is the use of art mediums for a non-verbal exploration of experiences, feelings, beliefs, validation, core values and any area of focus that talk therapy might also go into. I utilize this when there seems a need to achieve a break through into a new perspective or way to view or sense, or to integrate a different understanding of the self. I am trained in the treatment of addiction and codependency and always explore a family's levels of vulnerability to destructive patterns of relation where substance abuse may be detected. As the bulk of my professional life has been spent in physical and body therapy theories, I have also incorporated an awareness to the physical aspect of psychological wellness. I approach psychotherapy wholistically as a mind-body experience. Feelings are expressed in a person's body; physical armor and armature and kinetics, breathing styles and many other aspects of our physical expression of moving through space. I incorporate physical movement and environmental adjustments, altering lighting and sound to accommodate my clients' needs to explore cognitively and experientially. I have experience in Hakomi therapy and am exploring other approaches to "somatic" techniques in psychotherapy to enrich my work in this area. All of these approaches to therapy are professional and integral aspects of my work with individuals children, couples and families.
