Hope and Healing after an Affair using  Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Liliane Nahas, M.Ed., LPC-S, LMFT-S

Infidelity is one of the common reasons for divorce and is a frequent theme in couple therapy.  Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy can help couples seeking therapy to heal their relationship after an affair.

Infidelity in most cases is a threat to any relationship and can damage the stability of the relationship. EFT therapists conceptualize affairs as “attachment injury” – a violation of trust that questions the basis of a relationship.  By focusing on the key emotions and their attachment significance, EFT can help couples heal and form a secure attachment bond after an affair.

This workshop will explore attachment injuries along with the EFT approach to resolving them.

Objectives:

In this workshop we will cover the following objectives:

  • The impact of relationship betrayal and implications for treatment.
  • Relationship betrayals using attachment theory.
  • Recovery from betrayals
  • Treating attachment injuries within the EFT process of change.
  • How to address distress following disclosure of a betrayal.
  • Identify EFT interventions used to renew trust and establish new patterns of security.

For more than 25 years, Liliane Nahas has been helping clients understand themselves and their relationships. From a young age she developed an interest in psychology which evolved into a passion for helping couples stop hurting each other and rekindle the magic. As a certified EFT and Gottman therapist with a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology, and a Texas Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Liliane is well-equipped to help people change the negative patterns they’ve fallen into and guide them to a positive outlook.

Her practice in Houston is devoted to couples, individuals, and also to other therapists for EFT supervision. She consults with therapists, both in person or distance via a phone or meeting rooms. She also provides regular introductory workshops in EFT for therapists and assists at EFT trainings for therapists.

Liliane is fluent in English, French, and Arabic, and conducts therapy in any of these languages.
